‘What the Wolf Said’ performance
In celebration of Vilnius 700 and inspired by the founding story of this great city the VIS Performance Group devised a multimedia performance that explored the thematic duality of the wolf as a symbol of both light and darkness. This is something that resonates in many cultures around the world and begs the question: if Geležinis Vilkas howled with the voice of one hundred wolves, what were the other 99 saying?
The production included many stories and references from multiple sources and with everything from mythology to popular culture. These stories were intertwined in innovative and ambitious ways to guide the audience through an exploration of different depictions of wolves from contexts and cultures such as ancient mythology tales The Binding of Fenrir and Baltas Vilkas, a tongue in cheek reference to Nu Pogodi and scenes from fairy tales and modern movies. Costumes and sets were designed and created by the Grade 9 and 10 design and art students. The commitment and passion of the students were on full display as they wove the magic of theatre around our community.
