Co-curricular Programmes
VIS strives to promote empathy and belonging within our school community and beyond it.
VIS continued to promote Spanish language learning and strengthen cultural proficiency through immersive travel experiences. This year, Grade 8 and 9 Spanish Club students traveled to Madrid and Barcelona, where they engaged with the language and culture firsthand.
VIS and the care home ‘Senevita’ have been service learning partners since 2012. We visit multiple times a year with service projects integrated into our curriculum goals. Grade 5 students recently put on a variety show for their senior friends. Grade 6 students learn about sports adaptations for different age groups in P.E. and then organise an annual sports day for the seniors.
Our most lauded event happens in grade 8 with an interdisciplinary unit in which students explore memoirs in English class and learn portrait drawing in Art. Students then interview the residents in English, Lithuanian, Russian and even Spanish to record their life stories, eventually writing them up in the structure of a memoir which is accompanied by a portrait of the resident.
DofE started as part of a student initiated personal project. It has since become a point of pride at VIS as students work over the course of grade 9* to meet service goals as well as prepare for a 24 km hike and unsupervised overnight. Many thanks to our DofE coordinators, Mr. Povilas and Ms. Rūta for their tireless commitment to outdoor learning and civic education.
*Grade 9 students choose from one of three co-curricular activities: Ted X Youth, Duke of Edinburgh Bronze or Changemaker Challenge.
Students run an annual TedxYouth event. This event provides an opportunity for students to develop skills in marketing, event planning, production, and curating a relevant and engaging roster of speakers. The theme for the 2025-2026 school year was “Subconscious.” Several VIS students made their public speaking debut.
VIS students participate in Model United Nations (MUN), Model European Parliament (MEP), and Model NATO, developing their skills in public speaking, debate, negotiation, and collaborative problem-solving while engaging with current international and European issues.
These programmes give students the opportunity to take on diplomatic roles, explore complex global challenges, and work with peers from other schools. VIS also organises its own MUN conference, bringing together students from public, private, and international schools across Vilnius.
Our MEP programme also provides opportunities for students to represent VIS and Lithuania at regional events, including the Baltic Sea Region Model European Parliament in Saaremaa, Estonia.
The Changemaker Challenge is a dynamic program that empowers young people to explore real-world issues and develop innovative solutions. Through research, collaboration, and creative thinking, students work through the process of identifying problems and proposing meaningful change. The program includes interactive peer discussions to refine ideas and culminates in a showcase event, where students present their projects to expert guests who provide live feedback and guidance on how to take their ideas further.
The Week Without Walls is an immersive learning experience that invites students to step beyond the classroom and engage with the world around them. Designed to foster curiosity, connection, and reflection, this three-day program offers each grade a unique journey of exploration. Students take part in outdoor adventures, creative productions, overnight experiences, and meaningful encounters with history and place. Through hands-on activities, collaboration, and shared discovery, students build essential skills and strengthen their connection to the VIS community. Participation is expected, as the Week Without Walls is a valued and transformative part of the learning experience.
