VIS Changemaker Challenge 2026

VIS hosted its 5th Changemaker Challenge, which is a co-curricular activity in grade 9. The project follows civic education and youth participation model where young people learn how to identify community problems and pitch an idea of how to solve challenges in the world around us.

This year eight students in grade 9 took a challenge and have moved beyond surface-level issues to tackle complex systemic challenges, usibg research based approaches.  Students presented there project in areas of Antibiotic resistance, Zero Waste infrastructure, Affordable housing for university students and youth civic participation, Resilience against hybrid attacks, The impact of Social Comparison Theory on adolescent mental health.

The event was hosted by two Grade 12 students, VIS Changemaker Challenge alumni, a true testament of the program, who successfully implemented their project through to completion couple years ago.

Congratulations to this year’s VIS Changemakers! Specials thanks to our guest judges from The United States: Erin Lewis, Executive Director of Center for Innovation and Change at the University of Evansville and Dr. Jeff Spanke, Associate Professor of English, Director of English Education at Ball State University. Both guest gave valuable feedback and insightful encouragement for students to move forward with their projects.

We are now preparing our students for the Global Changemaker Challenge competition that will take place in the US in the fall. Stay tuned!
