Language of Instruction
Vilnius International School offers a bilingual education. The primary language of instruction at VIS is English; however, all of our teachers are bilingual and 90% of our staff speak Lithuanian. Other languages spoke by VIS teaching staff include Russian, Polish, Spanish, Finnish, German, and Danish. We actively provide support to non-English speakers. VIS does not utilize an immersion approach which denies children use of their native language, rather we use their first language to engage and support learners until they are comfortable enough in their classroom environment to take greater risks in English language use.
Lithuanian Language Instruction
Lithuanian language instruction is offered to children from the first grade. Native speakers are using textbooks recommended by the Ministry of Education. Non-native speakers follow a separate curriculum that focuses on development of verbal competencies.
